History of Nonthaburi Province
History of the province
History of the province History of Nonthaburi province: Nonthaburi was founded more than 400 years ago. Originally, it was a densely populated village known as "Ban Talad Khwan", which was a fertile land on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and was a famous fruit orchard of Ayutthaya era.

In 1549 King Maha Chakkraphat of Ayutthaya era raised Ban Talad Khwan to be the city of Nonthaburi. The city of Nonthaburi was originally located in Bang Krasor Sub-district with Hua Mueang temple (at present, it is an abandoned temple that the government has used as the location of Phra Nang Klao Hospital) is the northern area and Tai Mueang temple is the southern area.

In 1636 King Prasat Thong ordered to dig a shortcut canal under Tai Mueang temple to go through the front of Khema temple. This is because originally the Chao Phraya River flowed around by entering the Om River, flowing through Bang Yai and then crossing into the Bang Kruai Canal next to the lane of temple and came out in front of Khema temple. Therefore, when the shortcut canal is dug, the river current flows to change the path flowing into the newly dug shortcut canal. After a long time, it became the present Chao Phraya River. As for the original Chao Phraya River, it eventually became shallow and became a canal. When King Narai ascended to the throne

In 1665in 1665, he saw that when the Chao Phraya River changed its path, it was easier for the enemy to approach the city. Then the King ordered to build a fort at the mouth of the Om River and move the city of Nonthaburi to the mouth of the Om River at the same time. The city of Nonthaburi was located at the mouth of the Om River ever since. Until the era of the Rattanakosin period during the reign of King Rama III, some parts of the fort and the city were to be demolished to bring money to build Chalerm Phrakiat temple and some parts were washed away by the river current. At present, only the City Pillar Shrine remains.
Nonthaburi was established as a province on May 9, 1946.
